Film: Do Something Different
A Story-First Testimony That Captured Hearts at Connect Church
The Story
Connect Church needed a testimony film for a major annual event—one that didn’t just share information, but genuinely moved people and reflected the heart of their ministry.
We chose to highlight Stephen Douthit, a likable, honest, and deeply unique individual. Right away, Stephen describes himself as “lonely, angry, and calloused.” That emotional vulnerability introduced conflict from the first few seconds and immediately drew the audience in.
As the story unfolds, we walk through Stephen’s journey—ups and downs, moments of wrestling, and ultimately, surrender. He finishes his story with a powerful resolution: he’s found purpose in Christ and is committed to becoming a man of God. He is no longer lonely and calloused, but is surrounded by family, friends and the love of the Lord.
The Strategy
Key Story Decisions:
• One strong character: Stephen is a very likeable and relatable guy not just because of his transformation—but because his natural presence and honesty would emotionally connect with the audience.
• Structure over timeline: Instead of telling his story chronologically, we built around emotional themes and tension:
• Conflict: Introduced immediately in the opening line he was lonely & calloused.
• Journey: His struggles with drinking, working, and relationships all
• Resolution: A clear shift—his decision to follow Christ and live with intention. He is not lonely or calloused anymore!!
This intentional structure made the story more engaging and memorable for viewers.
