Film: Redeeming the Darkness
Crafting a Powerful Narrative for Project Rescue’s Fundraising Campaign
The Story
Project Rescue, an international nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and restoring women and children from human trafficking, sought to create an impactful film to help them fundraise.
Amy grew up in poverty in Africa and was promised a job in Europe to help support her family. Desperate to provide, she said yes. But what followed was a nightmare—voodoo rituals meant to control her, a deadly journey across the desert and sea, and finally, the devastating truth: she was being trafficked and forced into prostitution.
When police suspected her situation, they connected her to Project Rescue. She chose to go to the safe home. Through counseling, education, and faith, Amy’s restoration began. Today, she says she feels free—and she’s not afraid anymore.
The Strategy
We let Amy’s story lead.
Rather than presenting a broad overview of trafficking, we focused on one woman’s real journey—an emotional arc with clear conflict, gripping stakes, and a powerful resolution.
• Conflict: Amy’s desire to help her family met with a deceptive offer that pulled her into the darkness of trafficking.
• Journey: The physical and emotional trauma of her passage—voodoo rituals, desert crossings, deaths at sea, and the crushing realization of her exploitation.
• Resolution: Rescue, restoration, and redemption through the work of Project Rescue. Her voice closes the film with strength: “I’m so very free”.
By anchoring the film in Amy’s lived experience, we gave viewers a narrative they couldn’t look away from—and a reason to respond.
The Outcome
The film was used as the emotional anchor of Project Rescue’s campaign—bringing donors into Amy’s story with clarity and urgency.
It created a space not only for empathy but for action. Supporters saw what freedom truly looks like—and how their partnership helps make it possible.
Project Rescue has been able to use this Impact Film for many years, and continue to use it as a great example of their impact and influence on survivors of sexual exploitation.
